Do you have built-in bookcases? Free floating shelves? Styling these shelves can feel intimidating without a plan, but the following 5 easy tips will help. Grab your coffee or your wine 🙂 and have fun with them!
The Tips
- Arrange in Triangles: Objects arranged in a triangle format are more aesthetically pleasing to the eye.
- Layer your Pieces: Layering adds dimension and makes things more interesting.
- Group Items in Odd Numbers: group items in odd sets, odd numbers are more appealing visually. l tend to gravitate towards 3’s. You can incorporate even numbers when pairing items (i.e, baskets).
- Add Height: varying the height of items adds variety and helps with the triangle pattern! Books are a great tool…stack them horizontally and add an item on top.
- Consistent Color Pattern: Pull from the room the shelves are in to create a cohesive rhythm with the colors you use. Follow the odd number theory and spread them throughout your shelves. You can always add greenery!
